i think sam can shapeshift into any other living creature but maybe has a bond with the dog and as it is familiar to the people its an easy form to gain trust…im not really sure but im watching trueblood on a good friends recomendation and loving every minute of it…..enjoy xx

i thought it was pretty obvious he was a dog..im sure it said (or hinted strongly) on like the first episode..so was never a shocker for me. Thought the dog was cute though lol when sookie was getting dressed. Dunno why everyones getting so confused about it, he explains what he is in the conversation with Sookie.

sam has to change on a full moon but he can change at will whenever but you see two dogs because he needs a live animal to make the change

Twilight was ripped off this. The True Blood novels were written way before twilight. And the show stared before the Twilight movie was even released.
